Round 8 JOHNSON IN FRONT

PERTH youngster Michael Johnson’s form against East Fremantle last week earned him three votes and the lead in the Network Ten Rising Star Award.

Johnson has been one of the shining lights for the Demons this year and was one of the reasons they notched their first win of the season last Saturday.

The Rising Star award is judged each week by a panel of football journalists who collectively will attend each match before voting on a 3-2-1 basis.

To be eligible for the award, players must have played eight league games or less at the start of the 2003 season and must be aged 21 or under at the end of the home-and-away season.

West Coast and Fremantle rookie list players are able to win the award unless they are promoted onto the senior list during 2003. Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the home-and-away season will also be ineligible.

The presentation of the award will be conducted at an end of season function hosted by Football Budget publishers Wright Media.
