Round 22 VOTING CLOSE
VOTING in the
Network Ten Rising Star Award is extremely close, meaning that the performances
of the best young players in the WAFL will come under close scrutiny in the
final game of the season this weekend.
There are at
least four players still in contention to win the prestigious award, but we
can’t reveal any more details as voting went in camera at the end of Round 19.
The Rising Star
award is judged each week by a panel of football journalists who collectively
will attend each match before voting on a 3-2-1 basis.
To be eligible
for the award, players must have played eight league games or less at the start
of the 2003 season and must be aged 21 or under at the end of the home-and-away
season.
West Coast and
Fremantle rookie list players are able to win the award unless they are
promoted onto the senior list during 2003. Players who are suspended by the
tribunal during the home-and-away season will also be ineligible.
The presentation
of the award will be conducted at an end of season function hosted by Football
Budget publishers Wright Media.
