Round 21 NEW LEADER

THERE is a new leader in the Network Ten Rising Star Award, but because voting has gone in camera, we can’t reveal who has taken top spot.

Also, under the guidelines set by the Football Budget at the start of the year, East Perth’s Zach Beeck is now ineligible to win the award after being elevated to the senior West Coast list in recent weeks.

The Rising Star award is judged each week by a panel of football journalists who collectively will attend each match before voting on a 3-2-1 basis.

To be eligible for the award, players must have played eight league games or less at the start of the 2003 season and must be aged 21 or under at the end of the home-and-away season.

West Coast and Fremantle rookie list players are able to win the award unless they are promoted onto the senior list during 2003. Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the home-and-away season will also be ineligible.

The presentation of the award will be conducted at an end of season function hosted by Football Budget publishers Wright Media.

Progressive voting after Round 19 (now in camera): 25 -- Z. Beeck (EP); 24 -- C. Jones (SF); 22 – B. Murray (WP), M. Nicoski (SUB); 20 -- M. Johnson (PTH), B. Jones (CL); 16 -- B. Peake (EF), C.
