Round 17 MURRAY MOVE
BRAD Murray moved
into contention for the Network Ten Rising Star Award when he polled two votes
last weekend while the leading contenders did not add to their tally.
Murray is in
fourth place, five votes behind leader Clint Jones from
South Fremantle.
Behind Jones,
Subiaco’s Mark Nicoski could not score a vote as his Lions side had the bye
while East Perth ruckman Zach Beeck remained on 20 votes for the season.
The Rising Star
award is judged each week by a panel of football journalists who collectively
will attend each match before voting on a 3-2-1 basis.
To be eligible
for the award, players must have played eight league games or less at the start
of the 2003 season and must be aged 21 or under at the end of the home-and-away
season.
West Coast and
Fremantle rookie list players are able to win the award unless they are
promoted onto the senior list during 2003. Players who are suspended by the
tribunal during the home-and-away season will also be ineligible.
The presentation
of the award will be conducted at an end of season function hosted by Football
Budget publishers Wright Media.
