WAFL
Football In Jurien Bay
(April
10, 2002)
The
Central Midlands Coastal Football League has much pleasure in providing
regional football lovers with a unique opportunity to experience WA football at
its best when the WAFL comes to the picturesque coastal town of Jurien Bay on
Saturday 20th April 2002.
In
addition to the main event, a premiership game between the Perth and Subiaco
Football Clubs, football supporters have the opportunity to attend seminars on
coaching, umpiring and sports injuries management.
The game will be broadcast in the metropolitan area by Radio 6AR.
CMCFL
President Geoff Gill said “with the generous support of the state government
in providing funding through the Country Sport Enrichment Program, we are able
to bring the expertise and talent of our elite sportsmen to the regional areas
of WA, for this we are truly thankful.”
“This
has been a truly collaborative arrangement highlighting the co operation
between the state government, CMCFL, Department of Sport and Recreation, Shire
of Dandaragan, Jurien Bay Football Club as well as the West Australian Country
Football League, and the WAFL.”
“The
entire weekend also intends to showcase the talent we have in regional WA by
involving the Development Squads from CMCFL and the Mortlock League as well as
the up and coming “stars of the future” in our nippers and Auskick sides
that will play during half time of the big match,” Mr Gill said.
“The
entire spectrum of the sporting and recreation scene will be showcased in
Jurien Bay including a Sports Recognition Dinner facilitated by the Department
of Sport and Recreation to be held on Friday 19th April, at the
Jurien Bay Community Centre. Primarily,
its aim is to acknowledge those within our communities that have kept the
spirit and integrity of sport in our region alive, the all important spine of
communities in the bush.”
“The
Belt Up message is also being promoted throughout the weekend for those
travelling long distances. As it
is the commencement of our season, we support this important message as our
league encompasses a vast region for players of all ages to travel,” Mr Gill
said.
Patrons
also need to remember this is strictly a no BYO event.
“There will be plenty of food and refreshments available on the day as
well as the great entertainment to be provided by the game we all love the
most”, Mr Gill said.
“So
Belt Up and Be There for one of the best games of football you will see in 2002
and witness the Perth Demons take on the Subiaco Lions on Saturday 20th
April at the Jurien Bay town oval. Proceedings for the day begin at 10.00 am
with the match starting at 2.15 pm sharp.”
