Round 2 CASSON TAKES LEAD
SWAN Districts
recruit Damien Casson has taken the early lead in the Football Budget’s
prestigious Player-of-the-Year Award.
Casson, who moved to Swans from West Perth
in the off-season with brother Liam, picked up top votes for his workrate in
the Swans win over Perth at Bassendean Oval.
Damien Casson was
the only player to add votes to those collected in Round 1 when just the four
teams played.
Brad Smith’s
seven goals earned him top votes in the game between Subiaco and Claremont,
while Brent Cowell had a good game for East Perth and James Byrne made an
impressive debut for South Fremantle.
The voting system
for this award is the same as last season, with football journalists voting on
a 3-2-1 basis for each game.
The winner of the
award will be deemed the fairest and best player, with any player who has been
suspended by the tribunal during the season ineligible for the award. The
winner will receive a generous prize.
The presentation
of the award will be conducted at an end of season function hosted by Football
Budget publisher Wright Media.
