WAFL Grand Final Facts
Subiaco v West Perth
17 September 2003

Winning 2nd Semi Finals is rare for the Subiaco Football Club. Their win last fortnight was only their 5th win in a second semi final from 23. That’s a 21.73% winning ratio.

This week will see the Lions in their 18th Premiership decider. Their record stands at Won 7 and Lost 10… with 154 goals 150 behinds FOR and 173 goals and 197 behinds AGAINST. West Perth by contrast has played in 27 Premiership deciders with the record books showing 14 wins and 12 losses and a draw (in 1905 – in only the second year of finals in WA).  West Perth has kicked a score of 315 goals 314 behinds for and has had 296 goals 293 behinds kicked against it in these matches.

West Perth and Subiaco have played each other 308 times in League Football. The Falcons lead 197 to the Lions 107 with 4 games ending in a tie. WP and Subiaco have played a total of 151 times at Subiaco oval. WP lead 86 wins to 64 with 1 drawn match in 1921. They have only met each other in a Grand Final on just 3 occasions – 1935, 1973 and 1995. Subiaco have the chance to even the ledger this week.

WP has played 300 games of league football at Subiaco Oval with 146 wins and 150 losses and 4 draws.  Subiaco has played 966 league matches at Subiaco Oval with 477 wins and 485 losses and 4 draws.

Head to head, in finals, these two teams have met each other 15 times. WP has 10 wins and Subiaco has 5 wins. When Subiaco beat WP a fortnight ago it ended a winning streak of 7 straight by West Perth over them in finals. Head to Head at Subiaco Oval WP has won 56.95% and Subiaco has won 42.38%.

Recent clashes between Subiaco and West Perth are interesting. The past 19 meetings at Subiaco Oval since 1994 sees WP leading 14 wins to Subiaco 5 wins. But there have been a few close ones with margins of 3, 1, 3, 15, 12 and 2 points included in those 14 wins.
