2003 AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Draft
The depth
of talent within WA was further evident today with the AFL Pre-Season and
Rookie Draft selections.
Following
the selection of 12 players in this year’s AFL National Draft, the selection of
two players in the Pre-Season Draft and five new WA players in the Rookie Draft
further demonstrates the depth of talent being produced in talent programs
within the WAFL.
“The WAFL
competition and talent programs continue to provide the best environment for
the development of talented players in WA. This has been demonstrated this year
with the success of state youth squads, and the increase in draft selections
involving both youth and senior players“, said WAFL Talent Manager Brendan
Cullinan.
“WAFL
clubs are committed to ensuring that the development of their players is
enhanced through the allocation of adequate resources and personnel,” Cullinan
went on to say.
The WAFL recently endorsed
the continuation of the Player Development Policy implemented this season.
This policy was reviewed by a special sub-committee and deemed to be a success
in 2003. This policy will again see all colts eligible players, excluding the
late birthdate players, play in the colts competition up to the conclusion of
the National 18s Carnival. The rule for exceptional player still retained with
clubs able to promote exceptionally talented players direct to their league
side. |
